Congratulations to one of Happy Heart’s bell masters, Alda Ngo

In August, she travelled with her family to Magnolia Grove Monastery in Mississippi for a family retreat, where Alda was Ordained into the Order of Interbeing.

The Order of Interbeing, Tiep Hien in Vietnamese, is a community of monastics and lay people who have committed to living their lives in accord with the Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings, a distillation of the Bodhisattva (Enlightened Being) teachings of Mahayana Buddhism. Established by Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh in Saigon in 1966, the Order of Interbeing was founded in the Linji tradition of Buddhist meditative practice and emphasizes the Four Spirits: non-attachment from views, direct experimentation on the nature of interdependent origination through meditation, appropriateness, and skilful means.

Alda shares that as an ordained member of the Order of Interbeing, she makes a formal commitment to practise in the Plum Village Tradition and as a continuation of Thich Nhat Hanh’s lineage. She humbly offers her commitment to do her best to practise, guided by the 14 Mindfulness Trainings. As an ordinee, she offers her Practice in service to all those around her and aspires to continue her Engaged Buddhist Practice, with her life as a lay person being her Monastery.

Congratulations Alda, we look forward to continue sharing and growing our practice with you!

“Dear Mother Earth,

I bow my head before you as I look deeply and recognise that you are present in me and that I’m a part of you. I was born from you and you are always present, offering me everything I need for my nourishment and growth. My mother, my father, and all my ancestors are also your children. We breathe your fresh air. We drink your clear water. We eat your nourishing food. Your herbs heal us when we’re sick.

You are the mother of all beings. I call you by the human name Mother and yet I know your mothering nature is more vast and ancient than humankind. We are just one young species of your many children. All the millions of other species who live—or have lived—on Earth are also your children. You aren’t a person, but I know you are not less than a person either. You are a living breathing being in the form of a planet.”
